Projects → Castle Gibson

Castle Gibson specialise in location hire for all kinds of events, photo shoots and music videos. They also offer restored modern furniture for sale, and weird and wonderful props for hire. As their business has developed over the last few years, so have the needs of their website.

In 2008, I helped implement a furniture catalogue for Castle Gibson. The project involved:

  • Coding the front end in standards-compliant HTML and CSS
  • Building a dynamic website to display a database of catalogue images
  • Providing Castle Gibson with simple tools to upload and configure the display of their images
  • Creating a contact form for web enquiries relating to individual items

Once the initial build was under way, we expanded the brief and built in additional functionality:

  • A shopping cart system that enabled browsers to indicate interest in multiple items
  • Cookies set to remember a visitor’s selections even if they left the site and returned later

In 2009, we further expanded the furniture catalogue to encompass a new section for props.

In 2010, in response to Castle Gibson’s evolving business needs, I built a blog to accompany the main site:

  • The blog allowed CG to publish more content, more often
  • The blog has been very effective at promoting CG’s services and locations to potential clients
  • The volume of new content has greatly helped the site’s search engine rankings
