You Touched Me

MA fashion student Walter Buchholz had a day to create a website for his You Touched Me clothing project. As part of his research into fabrics, Walter was creating T-shirts out of material that had some history to it, or that had been 'touched' by celebrities.

The project took shape very quickly: in an evening the domain was configured, a hosting package set up and some basic pages uploaded. The emphasis was on speed over aesthetics, but Walter was enthusiastic about my choice of colour scheme and font (the title face is BM Pinhole). Over the next couple of days the site's core features were implemented:

  • An editable image gallery for the People and Places involved in the project.
  • Comment forms beneath images to allow browsers to interact with the gallery.
  • A contact form for visitors to send messages.
  • A password-protected zone for controlled access to Walter's design booklets.

The website helped Walter to raise awareness about the You Touched Me project. Following the launch of the site Walter ran a T-shirt auction on eBay and the proceeds were given to a Romanian charity.

Alastair helped me out of a tight spot by designing and building a website in less than 24 hours. Everyone I spoke to said it would be very expensive and take up to three days. Alastair understood very quickly the look was I was after and almost immediately came up with the design. I know that I will keep on working with Alastair, we were really 'cooking with gas' with the initial site. I feel we are on the same wavelength and look forward to extending the website with him."
