The brains behind Zenphoto has created a new beta theme based on Google’s PicasaWeb image albums. And I’m now using it!

The theme uses javascript to speed up the navigation: while you’re looking at one image, the script loads the next image in the background. You can fine tune the dynamic preloading to preload more or less images, either in hi-res or lo-res. It’s a question of balancing the speed of the navigation with the load on the server - something I need to tweak further. Basically, the theme hasn’t been released yet so even though I’ve got it to work, there are a few problems. You’ll notice for example that the ‘next’ and ‘previous’ buttons sometimes load images out of sequence.
